„Products that leave no waste and thus remain in a closed cycle.” In the Cradle to Cradle® design concept, the main focus is usually on this approach. However, the fact that Cradle to Cradle® certified products can also bring a decisive advantage with regard to the health of the room as well as the comfort and well-being of the user is also an important aspect.
The material health – more specifically the origin, composition and impact of used materials – is one of five categories in the Cradle to Cradle® testing catalogue.
At first, the raw materials and ingredients used in the products are closely examined in the “Material Health” certificate procedure. They are also strictly tested with regard to possible harmful substances that could have a negative impact on people during production, installation and later use.
The Lindner Group has a similar philosophy in the development, production and use of their product systems. Therefore, Lindner decided several years ago to test products according to the Cradle to Cradle® design concept. After several successful product tests for floor, partition and ceiling systems, the Plafotherm® Heated/Chilled Ceilings have now also been certified and successfully classified as “Silver”.
The suspended ceiling systems consist of factory-prefabricated modules, consisting of powder-coated metal ceiling panels, acoustic inlays if required, substructure and integrated heating/cooling technology on the back of the ceiling panels. The ceiling panels are streamed by cold resp. warm water and thus work without refrigerant. The Plafotherm® metal ceiling panels by Lindner are produced in the headquarter in Arnstorf in Lower Bavaria, Germany. Here, they are also powder-coated in a closed water circuit. This is why platinum status could be achieved in the “Water Stewardship” category, among others. In addition, the ceiling systems have a high recycling rate and the material components are extremely low in emissions.
Besides the good material properties, Plafotherm® Heated/Chilled ceilings provide a comfortable, healthier climate with good heat transfer, if required also combinable with pleasant supply air distribution as ventilation. The ceiling systems are not only energy-efficient and low-maintenance, they can also contribute to sound protection. Thanks to a variety of different surface finishes and design options, the ceiling system adapts to individual interior design and the wishes of architects, customers and users.
